Absorption

Absorption

  • Description

Absorption is a two player abstract game. In essence, each player has 18 two-sided pieces that move in stacks of three or less on an 8x8 square grid. The idea is to absorb the opponents pieces into your own by surrounding them with at least 1 more piece value (so a 2 piece stack would be absorbed if surrounded by 2, 2 piece stacks, or a 3
piece stack and a 1 piece stack). When you absorb the pieces, you turn them over to your color and add them to the capturing stacks. The first person to reduce their opponent to 3 pieces or less wins. In developing the game it has become a balanced and subtle game; very simple to learn, but potentially complex in strategy.

This is an abstract game I developed some time ago. In my opinion, a true abstract game can be played anywhere with items easily found (coins, stones, etc). To that end Absorption is played on an 8x8 grid (yes, a Chess/Checker board will work) using two-sided pieces (coins, checker pieces, etc). This means you can play the game by just printing the rules (see the PDF) and gathering the pieces. I will post pictures soon of the set I use, and hope to make a nice set with wooden pieces. I am still hoping to get this game published officially, in the meantime, I am putting it out to be played. Reviews, thoughts and pictures are welcomed.
