-
Description
Asalto is a hunt game, of the Fox & Geese family. It uses the same cross-shaped board as fox & geese, but transforms one of the arms of the cross into a fortress, where the "prey" starts the game. The rest of the board outside this fortress is filled with hunters. Other games based on Asalto include Officers & Sepoys, and German Tactics.
Information on The Game of the Pope and Pagan
Printed by W, & S. B. Ives, who are regarded as the first producers of board games in America.
The game itself is the classic game of "Asalto" with a classic bit of American bigotry overlayed as the theme. A "Christian Army" of missionaries lays siege to the Stonghold of Satan" which is occupied by the Pope and Pagan. The missionaries may move only on paths painted green and labaled with moral qualities such as "kindness", "Purity", etc. Dispite this movement restriction, as in the classic game, the attacking force will always win with careful play.
The board features two hand painted engravings.
