Description
An Oware variant for the entire family
Enjoy the feel of the gameboard, designed in the shape of a blossom.
Florancala is somewhat more tactical than the well-known "Little Stones Game" (BAO), but can easily be played with children from about 6 years on.
Semi-precious stones in the petals are collected and distributed; colored wooden balls in the hollows of the inner circle are used to mark the players' own starting spaces.
Each player may take stones only from his own hollows and distribute them.
If the last stone falls into an opposing petal in which then 2 or 3 stones are lying, the player may take these from the board and lay them down on the table, in front of him.
The player who has collected the most stones in the end wins.Start in your own hollows - capture only from opposing hollows.
• Solid gameboard in blossom shape, 30 x 30 cm
• 48 semi-precious stones and 32 wooden balls in 4 colorsAccording to Mancala World Florancala was first called Orancala. It is an Oware variant created by the Dutch game inventor Sjaak Griffioen on July 12, 2006. The Orancala board was shaped like an orange, while the commercialized game has a board, which looks like a flower.
Rules
The game can be played by 2-4 people. It is best for two since the larger variations can lead to the formation of unfair coalitions. The rules are similar to Oware. Differences are:
- At the start of the game all pits are neutral.
- A move either starts from a neutral pit or a pit owned by the player.
- If a player had begun his move from a neutral pit, it is then owned by him. The pit gets a marker of his color.
- Only the contents of neutral pits or of pits belonging to the opponent can be captured.
- The seeds are sown clockwise.
- The emptied pit isn't skipped in the sowing.
- It is permitted to capture all the opponent's seeds in a turn ("Grand Slam").
- If the opponent has nothing to play with, he needn't be feeded.
- The game ends when only one seed is left on the board or if both players agree that nothing can still be captured.
- The uncaptured seeds aren't counted.
