Panko or Votes for Women

Panko or Votes for Women

  • Description

This card game from 1910 shows pictures of events happening in the suffrage "Votes for Woman" era. I don't know much more about the game except that a copy of it is in The Jon A. Lindseth Suffrage Collection.

The card game had set of 52 cards and features Emmeline Pankhurst and Winston Churchill. The cards are purple, green, and white. The game instructions were included in the box.

The game consists of 48 cards in eight sets of six - "Fourteen Days!", "Votes for Women.", Toot! Toot! Toot!", "Law! Law! Law!", "Gaol! Gaol! Gaol!", "Help! Help! Help!", "Turn 'Em Out!", and "Pank! Pank! Pank!"

The game is subtitled "The Great Card Game Suffragists v. Anti-Suffragists."

The name of the game was presumably a rallying call to the followers of Emmeline Pankhurst (1858 - 1928), the leader of the Suffragettes in their fight for a woman's right to vote.
