Picket Duty - Okinawa: March - June 1945
-
Description
What is Picket Duty? It will be a solitaire game in which the player is the captain of a Fletcher Class destroyer while performing radar picket duty off Okinawa in 1945. The goal - survive the day as kamikazes try to sink your ship and inflict maximum damage to the U.S. fleet supporting the U.S. troops on the island.
A basic game, advanced game and a campaign game will be included. 27 different types of Japanese planes are represented. I have attached samples of a few and the main map. Keep in mind they are alpha and strictly for playtesting

In conjunction with the release of the game, I will be managing an online campaign similar to the ones I ran for B-17 QOTS and B-29 Superfortress. When the campaign will start will depend when the game is released once the magic 250 number is hit. To join, go here: http://www.skdgaming.com/picketcampaign/index.htmlMarch 27, 2011
Here is an excerpt from the an article to be published in the AHIKS newsletter. It was written by playtester Bob Best:"As most of you know or may have read in my bio last issue, I like solo games, like B-29 Superfortress that is featured on the After Action Report section of the AHIKS forum. There is another new solo game that is currently being offered at pre-sale that I have written about playtesting in the past. This new game that I was play testing is going to fit right in with my idea of a fun solo game and it is set in one of my favorite eras, World War II.
The new game is called Picket Duty and was designed by Steve Dixon, the designer of B-29 Superfortress. Aside from getting the opportunity to help make the game a good one, I have an advance copy of it so I can play it anytime I want to and this one in my opinion will be another great solitary game that will join the ranks of my "many times played" games. If you like US Navy games and you like the solo game idea with an eye toward roleplaying then you will most likely want a copy of this game.
I can say that I have had a great time playing the game so far and Steve Dixon has a website where he will be running a campaign game for Picket Duty similar to the B-29 Superfortress game that I played in.
If you are interested in the game, go to http://www.skdgaming.com. Pick the Picket Duty Campaign tab on the home page. Inside, you will find information on the campaign game and also a link to pre-ordering Picket Duty."

As a side note, Steve Dixon designed the very popular solitaire game B-29 Superfortress and is also currently working on an add-on module for that game which cover the B-29 missions during the early part of the Korean War. This game is available for Pre-Order and you can find out more here:
