Railway Rivals Map H: Western Canada
-
Description
A map for use with the Railway Rivals game.
The map covers the Western part of Canada. It was only ever available as hex sheets and colouring instructions.
Originally sold as a kit (for 48 pence, nearly 10 shillings in old money). Instructions are on the envelope that the game came in because all you had inside were several A4 sized hex sheets. After you have coloured it in as per the instructions, next you had to glue each sheet onto one piece of board. This took a lot of care, to get all the hexes lined up correctly. Having done that you covered the board a filmy cover called Touchdown. This was also very tricky because ideally you want a smooth playing surface but Touchdown, if you are not careful enough, had a tendency to add bubbles in the areas you thought you had covered. If this happened (and it did a lot, I can tell you), you had to quickly peel it back to the bubble and relay it even more carefully. And after several hours (or at leaset it felt like several hours), you had a new map to play on.
