Ten Trading Families are used in Samarkand: Byzant, Egypt, Levant, Alan, Tigris, Arab, Persia, Hun, China, Sindh
The game is set in 450 AD. Represented in Samarkand are 33 rare goods sought after by trading in ancient times, including Pepper, Gold, Silk, Myrrh, and Murex, the source of purple dye.
