Super Flight Deck

Super Flight Deck

  • Description
This children's game from Airfix was a new improved version of the Flight Deck game released in the late 1960s.A game of manual dexterity in which a model Phantom F4 jet from the British Royal Navy was launched from an elastic-powered catapult incorporated into the design of a replica of the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. The jet would then fly along a piece of transparent nylon line attached to a suitable door frame or similar pice of furniture from 12 to 40 feet in length. When the plane reached the summit of its flight, the weighted nose cone would cause it to rotate 180 and begin its descent. As the plane rotated, an arrestor hook on the undercarriage would lower, allowing the player to control the flight path of the returning plane using a joystick attached to the nylon wire.A successful landing would result in the arrestor hook catching a small trip wire on the flight deck, simultaneously halting the plane (and avoiding an embarrassing crash) and raising trap door on the aircraft carrier's deck, indicating a point scored for a successful flight and landing.Super Flight Deck was played in competition between two players, but was also suitable for solo play. - BoardGameGeek
