The Shopping Game
-
Description
Simple economics for children aged from 8 (although most 5 year olds can play the game well).
Move around the store buying the cheapest item of clothing (from 8 different types) but don't spend more than £25 (it is an old game!).
The board represents the interior of a department store with each floor being linked by stairs and a lift. This particular shop only sells clothes. Each of the cards names an article of apparel, the original price, the sale price and the amount of money saved. Players start with £30 and by moving their counter around the board according to the die throws, attempt to land on those squares which entitle them to make a purchase. As a purchase is made, the appropriate card is taken and the sale price mentally deducted from the £30 or balance thereof. As soon as a player has spent at least £25 he or she may make for the exit. The first player to leave the store gains a bonus and stops the game. Players then total up, adding cash remaining to the money saved on each article bought. A bonus of £2 is given to the player who was first to finish and a further bonus of £1 is given to each player who acquired a suit, that is a jacket and trousers or a skirt and blouse. The player with the highest total, wins.
