From the back of the box: "The object for each player is to score the greater total of points by using a limited number of letters. There are four different crossword puzzle patterns. Players alternate forming word in one puzzle block at a time, using the letters printed beneath that block and the available letters in 'reserve'. As a letter is used it is crossed out and cannot be used again."
